Position Overview:

ERM is seeking a bright, motivated Senior Sustainability & Climate Change Consultant, with significant business and consulting experience and private-sector client relationships, to join our team in Washington DC or Annapolis, MD.

As a key member of the Americas Sustainability & Climate Change team, you will contribute to the development and growth of ERM's global sustainability business, a key part of ERM's new strategy: One Planet. One Company. ERM., as well as play a key role in establishing offerings that integrate business case, change management, and ERM domain expertise.

The Sustainability & Climate Change team delivers a wide range of services related to environmental, economic and social issues, including strategy development, policies and management systems, metrics and goal setting, reporting and communications, third-party verification and assurance, life cycle management, and stakeholder engagement. We help develop and implement sustainability programs across a broad range of industry sectors for global companies.

This is a partner-track opportunity for a senior professional looking to advance their career with a global sustainability leader, while leading collaborative project teams that deliver world-class projects across the globe.? Other locations in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions will be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement strategic business/action plan, provide leadership, and deliver performance results to expand ERM's Sustainability & Climate Change practice and client base in North America. Serve as a key member of the "core" practice team to drive double-digit profitable growth across the Sustainability & Climate Change service line (e.g.,non-regulatory driven climate change, integrated water management, life cycle management, and sustainability strategy).
  • As a senior "seller/doer," personally win $1 million in sustainability services annually. Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take active leadership role in developing new business with new and existing clients.
  • Design programs that lead to multi-year client relationships. Embrace multi-disciplinary delivery teams.
  • Serve as billing member of project teams. Priority is sales growth with personal utilization in the 60% to 70% range.
  • Work with regional practice managing partner on top opportunities from inception through project delivery, focusing on building strong financial cases for ERM engagement.
  • Sell flagship ?front-end' sustainability projects with target clients that have the potential to turn into wider programs that lead to multi-year client relationships and embrace multi-practice teams.
  • Role model working globally - act as the glue that binds our practice and sector teams together. Participate in global practice calls and communications. Accept roles in running the practice on an ongoing and ad hoc basis.
  • Develop and introduce specific service offerings that include clear demonstration of target financial benefits and value-add to the client.
  • Develop practice training materials and deliver training on stand alone or modular basis as required, including coordination with and contribution to the ERM Academy. View training and capability development as part of job.
  • Create client case studies for the ERM sustainability branding effort, including validation, introduction and education across ERM practices, sector teams and business units.
  • Support knowledge management direction and tasks as required. Produce one thought piece, article or marketing flyer each month to generate client interest and position ERM for growth.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors/Masters degree in engineering, environmental management, science, social science, or related degree. MBA degree preferred.
  • 15+ years relevant consulting experience helping large corporations manage sustainability issues, particularly in the oil & gas, mining, power, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, or chemical sectors.
  • Experience in management consulting with a global firm desired.
  • Passion for sustainability issues, team building, and continued learning.
  • Demonstrated experience with international sustainability standards desired (e.g., ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Global Reporting Initiative, Equator Principles, UN Global Compact).
