MADRID ? Spain has selected the Catalan-language post-Civil War drama 'Pa Negre' (Black Bread) as its entry to compete for Best Foreign Language Film at next year's Oscars.

The film which tells the tale of a family after the 1936-39 conflict won nine trophies in Spain's Goya film awards earlier this year.

It stars Spanish actress Nora Navas and was directed by Augusti Villaronga.

The film was announced Wednesday by the Spanish Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences.

The U.S. film academy will select finalists for the honor in January with the Oscars announced a month later.

Spain has won four Oscars for best foreign language film.
